Last-Last Week

Hella late post. (I really like the word 'hella.' XD) I've somehow secured a free night for myself in the middle of the finals madness.

2012-04-26 Color Grid

Color grid took FOREVER. You remember me complaining about it a post or two ago. >___> It turned out okay. Could be better. But pretty good considering the lack of patience I had with it.

Figure Drawing 2012-04-27

Had a really good session that week. Especially like the last long pose, even if the head is a little big. She just has a big forehead, okay! DX These are the only 3 figure drawings to span these 2 weeks. Last week's drawing session was a disaster. I hadn't slept in 2 days and I kept falling over in the middle of my drawings. I ended up with a bunch of really messy, half-complete sketches that weren't worth posting.

I also have scans of the puppets I/we (we're called Pie Puppetry XD) made and a fabric study along with all the stuff I did last week and this week. The images need editing, though, and I just wiped my computer Wednesday. I still need to reinstall photoshop and whatnot, so I'll upload them later once that's done. Sunday maybe. Or Monday. Or when finals end. >____> We shall see.

PASSED MY PORTFOLIO REVIEW

I'll get around to uploading my work these past 2 weeks, but in the mean time, I PASSED MY PORTFOLIO REVIEW. So here's the final version of what I submitted.

... And I apparently have to do another one next semester. In a different medium. asdf.

I was sick this week, so there's less work than there would have been if I hadn't been sick.

Fabric is apparently not white enough. And the background should be darker. I fail at contrast with graphite. Sighs. I have to fix it some and take it to class.

Long poses again this week. I am not good with them. Short attention span. I did two versions of one pose instead of just fleshing out one as I should have. It didn't help that I had decided not to wear contacts since I was still a bit sick.

Drew this since I couldn't really see the model. Attempt at drawing figures from memory. This is one of the few times I've done this on white paper instead of lined paper.

This was for work. I'm not entirely happy with it. But at my current level, it's not going to get any better.

Spring Break is Overrrr ;-;

I was simultaneously very busy and not very productive this Spring Break. I made no new prints for AX, didn't renew my passport, and left nearly all my homework for the last day. However, I hung out with friends that returned for the break, made progress on AX plans, and did manage to finish all my homework in the end.

I ALSO THINK MY ANIMATION REEL DID VERY WELL. AND THAT I MIGHT GET AN INTERNSHIP AT A GAME COMPANY THIS SUMMER. :DDDDDDD

OH AND MY PIE SCRIPT GOT CHOSEN TO BE PRODUCED. It got changed to a puppet show due to time constraints, so maybe you'll see cute puppet show props on my blog in the near future.

... Actually I'm starting off with that painting midterm I couldn't post since the teacher collected it. We had to paint with acrylic, in color, a still life with a yellow egg, a white paper cube, and an eggplant on midtone cloth.

This is the project I stayed up all night for on the last day of my spring break. Haven't pulled a real all-nighter in a while. I didn't even start dozing off until 10am. It's a still life rendering from photograph, done in acrylic. The photograph should be somewhere in my older posts. (Here.) 

3D Animation

This is the midterm reel I am relatively proud of. I used the song mostly because its name is my English name. A friend tells me its really depressing, though. I think I'll change it. Also people keep asking me if I played the song myself, SO NEXT TIME I WILL! >D I can play this song. Or part of it at least. >_>

Things to fix: Moving pendulum is a bit too fast. Heavy ball (checkered) might also be a bit fast. I also want to use better textures for that scene and add a mirror behind the boy doing ballet. (This other guy in our class used mirrors! I'm going to learn how!) I am going to refrain for animating him doing an entire ballet sequence. XD

I also revised the walk I posted last time a bit, but I'm too lazy to upload it. You'll get to see it when I upload my animation final reel.

It took a long time to get into drawing this week. I worked on long poses since the teacher said my portfolio needed more long poses.

Poster for our school's Percussion Ensemble. My work place is affiliated with them, so I often design posters for them. Next time I'll try to upload them sooner so people actually see the poster before the concert. >_>

Update to the "No Shoes" sign I'm making for work. My first WIP is on tumblr if not here. I'm almost done. Just need to add more clutter to fill up empty space. And the first 2 panels are missing the cushion that's on the shoe shelves/benches.

March 11-16, 2012

Got feedback on my portfolio. I don't think I'll post it until it's finalized. It consists of work that can be found across my various art sites, anyway. My figure drawing instructor said my face sketches were messy, so I tried smoother toning this week.

In other news, I think I'm going to China for work. BUSINESS TRIP XD. Which means I can't go to ComicCon. But, China vs. ComicCon... Sorry. China wins.

March 4-10, 2012

This week I found out when the portfolio review is. And did some panicking. (But not enough in my opinion.) I also made little to no progress on my painting class' B/W still life. >_>
I did, however, come up with a really cute story for my writing class. More like a friend invented the story off the top of her head and I fixed it up. BUT IT'S A CUTE STORY. ABOUT PIE. Maybe I'll post it once I finish writing it.

3D Animation
We worked on arm raises and arm slams this week in 3D animation. I learned that 2D animation doesn't translate to 3D animation all the time. I revised the arm slam, but the instructor wants me to raise his arm more. Haven't gotten around to revising the arm raise.
There's also another pendulum swing revision. I didn't upload my previous versions here, but some are on Tumblr.

Painting class went outside on Thursday to paint a a blue abstract statue thing. Here's the product of those three hours outside. For the painting, I was told to use a mixture of the three primary colors and black and white, with varying amounts of all 5 paints at all times.
